What cookies are, which ones we use and how to manage them
This website uses its own and third-party cookies to collect information that helps optimise your visit to its web pages. Cookies are not used to collect personal information. You can allow or reject their use, and you can change your settings whenever you wish.
What are cookies?
Cookies are files that can be downloaded to your computer through websites. They are tools that play an essential role in the provision of numerous information society services. Among other things, they allow a website to store and retrieve information about a user’s browsing habits or their device and, depending on the information obtained, can be used to recognise the user and improve the service offered.
Types of cookies
By the entity that manages them
- First-party cookies: those sent to the user’s terminal equipment from a computer or domain managed by the publisher itself, and from which the service requested by the user is provided.
- Third-party cookies: those sent to the user’s device from a device or domain not managed by the publisher, but by another entity that processes the data obtained through the cookies. If cookies are installed from a device or domain managed by the publisher itself, but the information collected through them is managed by a third party, they cannot be considered first-party cookies.
By how long they remain stored
- Session cookies: designed to collect and store data while the user accesses a website. They are typically used to store information that is only needed to provide the service requested by the user on a single occasion.
- Persistent cookies: the data remains stored on the device and can be accessed and processed for a period defined by the cookie owner, which can range from a few minutes to several years.
By purpose
- Technical cookies: allow the user to navigate through a website, platform or application and use the different options or services available therein, such as controlling traffic and data communication, identifying the session, accessing restricted areas, remembering the elements that make up an order, completing a purchasing process, submitting a request for registration or participation in an event, using security elements during browsing, storing content for the distribution of video or audio, or sharing content through social networks.
- Personalisation cookies: allow the user to access the service with some predefined general characteristics based on a series of criteria on the user’s device, such as the language, the type of browser through which the service is accessed, or the regional settings from which it is accessed.
- Analysis cookies: allow the data controller to monitor and analyse the behaviour of users of the websites to which they are linked. The information collected is used to measure the activity of websites, applications or platforms and to create browsing profiles, in order to introduce improvements based on the analysis of the data on the use of the service.
- Advertising cookies: allow the management of advertising spaces in the most efficient way possible.
- Behavioural advertising cookies: store information on user behaviour obtained through continuous observation of their browsing habits, which allows the development of a specific profile to display advertising based on it.
- External social media cookies: used to allow visitors to interact with content on different social platforms and are generated solely for users of those social networks. The terms of use of these cookies and the information collected are governed by the privacy policy of the corresponding social media platform.
